And The First Half Winner Is…..

Gentlemen of the BMGA. Your first half winner, earning a guaranteed spot in the playoffs, and a cool $40 in Brookview Chits per player, is last year’s champion, Young Gunz! Scoring a 6th straight week of 40+ points with 43.5, Young Gunz took a 1.5 point first half win over last year’s runner-up, Drawshank Redemption. Drawshank, after holding onto the lead almost the entire first half, slumped at the end, but pulled in 45.5 points this week to bring them back up into contention. Drawshank, with their second place finish gets a cool $20 per player in Brookview Chits.  Rounding out the top three was CTB (Chuck The Barber), pulling in a week best 46 points and finishing only 1.5 points back from second.  CTB, after pulling in a whopping 52 points 4 weeks ago hasn’t looked back scoring 40+ points each week since.  Last week’s leader, Six Pack stumbled putting up 34 points and dropping to 4th, 4 points out of third and 7 points out of first. They fell at the hands of Range Balls, who pulled out of their slump, scoring 39 points.

The second half of the year should be quite interesting now that we have expanded to a 6-team playoff.  There are many variations on how teams could possibly get in, so stay tuned to these notes as the second half progresses.  No matter how poorly you may have finished in the first half, the season essentially starts over and you may still win the second half and get into the playoffs! Young Gunz averaged 41.5 points per week. If you want to win the 2nd half, that’s your benchmark.

The side games proved quite interesting. The lowest net scores of the season were posted this week as the membership, either sandbagged there way into the final week of the first half, or more optimistically, just played better knowing what’s at stake.  Ben Raak posted a league low net score of 27. His improvement is courtesy of Dee Forsberg, Brookview teaching pro. Check her out at: http://dfgolfinstruction.com/.   Riding Ben’s coat-tales, Mike Ryan finished in the top spot in the Two-Man-Low-Net game this week, making his appearance in there, in the top three, for the second week in a row. Finishing 2nd, with what would have been a season low in the Two-Man-Low-Net game, was Marc Kenville and Mike Parsons, with a 64.  The former season low of 65 was only good enough for third this week.

Joe Larson, after making an appearance on the low gross game in Week 1, reappeared with a little more vigor this week, shooting -2 (34) on the back, ousting the best round I’ve seen from Brad Jordan, with a 35.  Congratulations to all of the winners in the first half of the season. Please make sure to pick up your chits in the proshop when they are ready.

Finally, as a heads up for the second half of the season: THERE WILL BE NO CALLAWAY handicap scoring in the second half. Everyone must have an established handicap. If you don’t you will be considered a 0. There were more players than I realized, that have not recorded a single Wednesday night league score. Even if you have an established handicap, it is your responsibility to record your scores.

Week 7 Results!

One more week and the first half of the season is already over!  Finding themselves in primo position is Six Pack, taking a 9 point victory from the former top dog, Drawshank Redemption. Caught up in the mix is Young Gunz pulling in their 5th 40+ point week in a row.  Six Pack has a 2.5 point lead over 2nd Place Young Gunz with Drawshank falling back, 6 points out of first. The biggest jumper this week was Hack Attack, jumping up 4 spots, from 15th to 11th with 42.5 points.  Next week Six Pack plays Range Balls, who by every account is deep into a slump, scoring their third 20-something point week in a row. Young Gunz is up against Foreplay and Drawshank is up against Drive 4 Show.  The top spot of the first half gets a guaranteed spot in the playoffs!

The two man low net game yielded the lowest score of the season, and with that, the biggest “sandbagger” awards go to Steven Haik & Dave Bialke, shooting a 65 on the front. Of course I’m kidding, nice rounds gentlemen.  The low net round goes to Hoffman’s partner, Sandy Barin, shooting a 30 and winning them second place in the two man low net game. It’s about time somebody picked up for Hoffman’s slack.  And rounding out third, each with a birdie on the last hole, was Mike Ryan and Meder.  In addition to putting Ryan & Meder into the 3rd spot of the two man low net game, Ryan’s putt on number 9 gave him the long putt flag event and put him atop the low gross, by one shot, over Andy Kim, who also made long putt on his last hole, number 18….. there must be a correlation between making putts and shooting low.

Maday put his name back in the spotlight winning closest in two on hole one, and he didn’t even need to make a deuce to win it this time.  Kelly Gallagher prevented Hoffman from getting closest to on hole 4 for the 3rd week in a row.  Kelly’s shot was great and all, but Hoffman did play the back this week, so…. Anyway, I don’t have any stories about the rest of the flag events because I didn’t see them, so until next week!

Week 6 Results!

I had the night off, but from what I heard, week 6 was windy.  Drawshank’s grip on the top rung of the ladder is slipping, scoring their lowest point total of the season with 36.5. Meanwhile, Young Gunz proceeded to score their 4th 40+ night in a row. But, taking second honors, only 3 behind Drawshank is Six Pack with 42.5 points.  Young Gunz drops a spot to third, but is only 3.5 points back from 1st.

Medalist goes to I Like Big Putts, scoring 49 points, 3rd highest one week total by any team this season, bringing them out of the cellar and into 15th.  Range Balls has turned into the range picker, taking a beating from their opponent the last two weeks.  Scoring only 2 better than last week, Range Balls brings in the bottom with 29 points and is now in last place.

The two-man-low-net game ended up as a Bernie Sanders’ supporter’s dream as 5 teams tied with a 68, each player taking home a $7 piece of the prize. Trent Mayberry, the low horseman here shooting a net 30.  The low gross game has yielded a back to back winner in Howie Hoffman, shooting a 35 this week.  Last week he had to split it, but this week he ousted Mike Ryan by 1.  Howie also took closest to on 4 again this week, as he petitions to rename the hole, “Howie’s Hole”.  Dan Olson took closest in two on 11 and wanted everyone to know that he was only 8″ away.  Seeing this, Doug Maday sat back in his couch and said, “I’ve seen better” (I’m referencing his deuce from week 5 on hole 11 in case you didn’t read last week’s write up).
