Rotation Results

What an amazing day for golf. The heat was turned up high, the wind was super calm and it made for some great scoring on the course. This year we tried something a little different and added a net division. This worked by calculating the team handicap into thirds. Scramble (35% low handicap + 15% high handicap), Fourball (85% of players handicap) and Alternate Shot (add both players – 50%).

In the Gross Flights, the champions will take home 100 BMGA Cup Points and $47.50 per person. Second place receives 75 BMGA Cup Points and $30 per player. (Unless there was a tie and it’s noted below.)

In the first flight, there was no surprise. The tournament director before the event started had already turned in their chit money. Brad Jordan + Howard Hoffman shot a solid -5 par, with two bogies in alt-shot but otherwise a clean card. Second place went to Richard Brynteson + Steve Hartmann at -2. The top two teams were tied at -5 through the fourball but couldn’t keep the pace down the stretch.

In the second flight Brian Beitlich + Dan Grubb ran away from the field with a -1. Gerald Meier + Steve Hallfin took second place at +3.

In the third flight, family duo of Nicklaus Grandstrand + Steve Grandstrand finished at +2. BMGA veterans Marty Mangold + Peter Steichen finished at +5.

In the fourth flight, Jeffrey Olson + Steve Couture took the top honors at +12. Tied for second place was Curtis Medina + John Bolduc and Kirk Williams + Ted Roberts. They will receive 35 BMGA Cup Points and $15 each for the second place tie.

Lastly, in the Net Flight, the family duo strikes again with a -8 (Nicklaus Grandstrand + Steve Grandstrand) and top honors. This earns them $25 each. In a three way tie for second place at -7 included: Brian Beitlich + Dan Grubb, Gerald Meier + Steve Hallfin and Kyle Egan + Nick Ward. They get to split the second place prize pool six ways, earning themselves $5 each. Just enough for a bucket of balls.

2-Man Rotation Details

The popularity of weekend events continues to grow! After the largest Greek Scramble that can be remembered (56 players) we follow it a week later with the largest 2-Man Rotation even (60 players).

Here is the tee sheet for the 2020 2-Man Rotation via Golf Genius.

This tournament IS FLIGHTED based on the low-player in the two-some. There will be FOUR flights. The TOP 2 teams in each flight will be paid out.

NEW: In addition to the four gross flights, we will have a single net flight payout as well. Handicaps will use the USGA rules for Scramble, Fourball and Alt-Shot handicap method with strokes being given at correct holes. We will pay out the TOP 2 teams in this flight but no BMGA Cup Points will be award. You can win in BOTH the Gross and Net divisions.

Event Rules

Holes #1 — #6: Two-Man Scramble Format
* Must use each player’s drive at least twice.
* “Winter rules” will be allowed within 1 foot of the ball in play, not closer to the hole.

Holes #7 — #12: Fourball Format (a.k.a., Two-Man Best Ball)
* The team score is the better gross score of the two players.

Holes #13 — #18: Two-Man Alternate Shot Format
* Player #1’s tee shot is used on the odd numbered holes (#13, #15, & #17)
* Player #2’s tee shot is used on the even numbered holes (#14, #16, & #18)
NOTE: Each team must identify Player #1 and #2 before the start of hole #13.

On each hole players alternate shots, playing the ball as it lies, until the ball is holed-out. Players cannot switch balls during the play of a hole unless the ball is lost or damaged.

NOTE: There are two groups going off hole #10. They use the SAME format above on the holes indicated.

Beer After Round Adjustments

All,

With the upper deck opening last week, we understand the excitement of getting back to socializing with teammates and having league beer on Wednesday nights. However, the league’s behavior last Wednesday drew some complaints.  Some of us did not go up on the deck last week due to the number of players up there and the lack of distancing, so it is no surprise that complaints were made.  In order to keep that upper deck open, we as a league at a public facility need to do a much better job of abiding by the social distancing guidelines.  It is very important to set a good example and not provide the city or Brookview any reason to second guess their decision to allow us to use the deck, as the city can quickly close the deck based on our behavior.

Per Ben:

The deck can handle 36 people on it at one time based on current distancing guidelines.  We will step up our signage on the deck.  We have intentionally set out seating for 36 people only.  If there is not a chair available, the deck is full.  No leaning on the railings, etc.  We are also increasing seating on the south side of the restaurant (where scoring is done on some weekends) and on the north side of the restaurant patio.  Additionally, lawn bowling is not scheduled to open for at least the next 2 two weeks and that is a great area to maintain distance and gather, at least for now.  The restaurant staff won’t service these areas but they do allow us to spread out more.  Ideally gathering #’s will increase as we get through this summer, but that has not been approved as of yet.

Again, please be more aware of your surroundings and be smarter about your behavior.  It is not business as usual.  If you are on the deck tomorrow and see behavior that is questionable, please remind players of their responsibility to abide by the guidelines set by Brookview.

Thank you,

BMGA Board

Greek Scramble: Tee Times & Teams

Below are the Tee Times and Teams for the Greek Scramble:

Tee Sheet via Golf Genius

We will have tee times from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM. After the round, bring your scorecards to the clubhouse to turn them in. We will either be on the patio or tables will be setup on the South Side of the building. Each player will get 2 (two) drink tickets for attending the tournament. Results will be posted online and in-person.

Format: Each player tees-off from the member tees from their starting tee. The Team selects the two “best” drives and divides into two 2-man Sub-teams (Sub-team A and Sub-team B). Each 2-man Sub-team completes the hole in scramble format (choosing the best of each pair of shots). This sequence is repeated for each of the 18 holes. A minimum of six tee-shots from each player must be used during the round.

Missing Player: In the event a Team is short a player (only 3 team members), the player whose handicap is closest to the handicap of the missing player will play both his own ball and the ball of the missing player.
