Week 5 Results (Slowest Round of golf EVER)

Clearly we have an issue with slow play! We had a great day of weather and plenty of sunlight, but seriously we need to discuss this issue much further… If your 4 some is not on top of the group in front of you something is WRONG. I need you Minnesota nice (never want to see conflict) people to say something to your 4 some… PLEASE play ready golf. Number 14 can be very difficult to navigate when maybe 1 guy could possibly drive the green. Let the other guys tee off for starters. Also if we are backed up, the group on the green wave the guys on the tee box to tee off and you guys back off for a moment. If your on an early tee time you better play fast, you set the pace for the whole night. more information will follow throughout the year.

The new guy of the week is no other than a local Hopkins kid Mike Saless. Drafted by the Loopers in the 4th round, Mike attributes his 2-2 match play record to his style and pure strength off the tee box. Clearly Mike is not a potential customer for JESSE’S Barbershop, but luckily for Bald Man Brewery he likes beer! Mike has a bit of pink in his golf gear so he is pretty easy to recognize from great distances. I asked him about the pink and well he got a great deal on a bag with pink on it and the cart well that just matched.

Week 5 and we are seeing the last place teams from 2020 dominating their division. Last Call has had some impressive wins and is leading its division thanks to veteran captain Bob Boufford who has yet to be defeated this season. Bob has been working on the maintenance crew at Brookview this season so you decide? (First hand knowledge on pin placements and boxes?)

CTB (aka Jesse’s Barbershop) went from the bottom of the barrel to #1 overall. Jesse the barber has yet to lose, it probably has something to do with those 300 yard bombs he hits that are somehow hitting the fairway for the first time in years?

Zed Heads whose history has been pretty mediocre has taken off… Randy Z has not only won all of his matches, he has destroyed his competition. Randy is leading the league in points scored and he has only played 4 out of 5 weeks. If you end up playing with Randy in your foursome play the other guy… Trust me…

Putt for Dough the one anomaly this year in the league… Ever since Roger took over this team they make it to the playoffs. A Championship will defiantly be in their future, but when? Roger has only played 3 weeks and so far the captain is still undefeated, although unlike Randy Z I would challenge Roger any day of the week in match play. David Hillsheim is the hot stick on this team scoring 25 points in 4 weeks. The key to beating this team is hoping David is on a bye.

Back 9 net Skins Tom Nestvold with a birdie on 16 with a bump net Eagle and Ted Scheunemann with a par on 15 with 2 bumps net eagle. $25 Each… Sorry guys on 14 there were like 5 of you who just cancelled each other out.

Metro Seniors split at Wirth – Golden teams jumps up.

On a very cold and a very soggy Theo Wirth course the Metro Sr teams battled their way to one huge win and one unfortunate defeat.

The Valley team went up against the team from Gross. @Dean-Penk led the way with 5 of 6 points while shooting a net 80. @Ted-Roberts split is match 3-3 with his net 82. Captain @Sheldon-Silberman was able to split the front 9 and got his only point, losing 1-5. @Richard-Courtney unfortunately was swept by his opponent.
The Valley Team was beat 9-15, but retained their 7th place spot in the league.

The Golden team had better luck. Of the 24 points possible, they dropped only 1, beating Oak Marsh 23-1.
Leading off was the venerable one, @Tom-Hanson shooting a nice 81 and grabbing all 6 points by the 14th hole. Captain @Roger-Hamm won the 9th hole to split the front 9 and then went on to win the back and the match and was only able to get 5 of the 6 points with his net 72. @Steve-Shellenbaum had some challenges with the driver, but was still able to get 6 out of 6. @Ward-Eames posted a nice net 73 and also smoked his opponent 6-0.
The Golden team jumped 3 spots to third in the league and are 11 points behind the co-leaders.

Next week the Golden team hosts. Come on out to meet the Brookview brave on Friday afternoon! To find out more, see Sheldon or Roger.

Week 4 Results

The new guys of the week are Brad Reifsteck and Jake Walezko. They may be wearing the same colors, but they are not on the same team. Brad (left guy) was drafted by Brooky Strong (Jeff Martin Captain) because he needed a new guy who could produce big numbers. Brad pitched for Northern Iowa in his hey day. 89mph was about the top of his range, but his swing speed is way over that. Brad is a real estate investor for fun, and a civil engineer by trade. Jake (Right guy) on the other hand was drafted by Mid Round Crisis (Brad Jordan Captain) because well just because…. Jake is 2-1 in league and is off to a hot start. He grew up in Lakeville playing his early years at Crystal Lake. Jake has a baby on the way so he is hoping to play as much golf until the little one arrives. A tidbit about Jake, once he was driving on Hwy 90 and flipped his car, Yes he walked away just fine, the car not so much

Week 4 Game Results

No team has taken dominance so far so at least we can say the draft was a success on evening out the teams. Brookview’s patio has been a huge success and if we can somehow figure out how to order food a tad faster we might all get some more beer.

Closest to the pin on #4 Randy Zejdlik $10

Closest to the pin on #8 Frank Timpone $10

Longest Putt on #9 Gavin May $10

Low Net Richard Courtney and Duncan Jochminsen net 32 $5 each

Front 9 Net Skins: Christian Olson won 2 skins. He got a net eagle on #1 and #5. $33… Randy Zejdlik shot a par on #4 with 2 bumps so that’s a net 1…. Sorry Randy that doesn’t count for a hole in one. $17

Back 9 Net Skins: Nick Gnerer got a birdie on 17 for a net 1 Wow once again sorry Nick that doesn’t count for a hole in one. $17 bucks…. Jeff Towey got a birdie on 11 for a net 2. $17 bucks. Aaron Riedel got an huge birdie on 13 for a net 2.. $16 bucks….. If you were wondering if your birdie on 14 would hold up? Sorry guys join the club at least 6 of you cancelled each other out.

Individual Match Play Results

Congrats to everyone who won their opening rounds of match play. Please make sure to start working on scheduling your next match. You can find the full bracket here.

The highlights of the round included:

  • Low Gross score went to Howard Hoffman shooting a solid 70.
  • Most birdies went to Zach Kamerer with 5
  • Only one eagle on the course, Carson Walker, with a 3 (net 1) on hole #3.

Our on-course prizes for the tournament included:

  • Closest to Pin #1: Steve Couture

  • Closest to Pin #11: Brad Jordan
  • Closest to Pin #12: Chris Gaspard
  • Closest to Pin #17: Brad Jordan
  • Long Putt: Matt McClernan

Unfortunately course stakes for #8 and #9 were removed from the course before all groups were able to play so we have to invalidate those ones.

In our skins game, we had LOTS of skins.

  • Gross Skins: Zach Kamerer (x2), Howard Hoffman, Brian Sutton and Michael Saless each earned $23.00 per skin.
  • Net Skins: Steve Couture, Gary Ridout, Larry Jocelyn, Michael Saless, Steve Benson, Christoper Gaspard and Zach Kamerer each earned $23.00 per skin.

Metro Seniors endure a soggy round @ Les Bolstad

On Friday at the University course our fearsome 8 some of the Metro Seniors slogged it out on a wet course made ever wetter by a deluge mid-round.

The Golden team took on Valleywood and had mixed results. @Gary-Ridout did not have his usual stuff and lost 0-6 to a net 74 from a 5 handicap. Net 74 is pretty good in those conditions. Captain @Roger-Hamm managed to grab 5 with his net 77. @Daniel-Peters played a solid net 76 and swept all 6 points. @Chris-Rueter had his first ever Metro Sr Round and unfortunately was swept 0-6, but had his chances. The 11 -13 point loss had little impact on the team standings.

The Valley team fared better versus the Columbia team. @Steve-Slivken managed just 1 point with his net 79. @Marty-Mangold (BNH) shot a nice net 73 and took all 6 points. @Dean-Penk squeezed 2 points from his net 78. Not to be out-done, @Jim-Husnik took all 6 with his net 77. The 15-9 win also had little impact on the season standings.

Next week we play at Wirth. Just 2 points separate the teams now. We are in 6th and 7th places. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!

BMGA Weather Reminder

Just a quick reminder that the BMGA will typically play tournaments and WNL play in rain – sometimes – heavy rain. In the event of inclement weather, the course will sound a horn to tell all players they should leave the course. By USGA rules, you should not finish the hole, but rather mark your spot and head in. When the course is clear, the horn will sound again with three shorter beeps of an all clear.

If you have questions, make sure to contact your captains.

Individual Match Play Details

The first round of the Individual Match Play tournament is set for May 22nd. Our first tee time is at 7:00 AM and runs to 8:30 AM. You can find the full tee sheet here:

BMGA Metro Senior Teams advance at Gross

Columbia Golf hosted the 3rd week of the Metro Sr. League at Gross as the Columbia course is still undergoing some reconfiguration and maintenance. The weather, while a bit chilly to start was perfect.

The winds came up late in the round and the greens were a little bumpy making it challenging for the Golden team as they had three matches “against the card” because Chomonix only could bring one player. With @Steve-Slivken and @Sheldon-Silberman filling in the empty spots (for fun) and providing some tips on playing the card, @Tom-Hansen and @Stan-Hop each swept with 6 points by tying the card both front and back (ties go to the actual player). @Dan-Peters also played the card and won all 6 points. Unfortunately, @Ward-Eames was not successful in his close match shooting a net 74 but was shut out on points. The Golden team 18-6 win vaulted them up to a tie for 5th place in the standings

The Brookview Valley Team played strong but didn’t get many points in a 17-7 loss to Wirth and dropping to 7th place overall. @Jim-Sanford struggled a bit but was able to pull off a tie with 3 points. @Peter-Steichen shot 3 over par on the front and a net 73 overall but was giving up 11 strokes to a guy that shot a net 69! Peter squeaked out a tie on the back for 1 point. @Ted-Roberts also ran into a buzz saw when his opponent shot a net 70 from the short tees and got swept. @Randy-Zejdlik won the front and squeaked out a tie for the match to gain 3 points.

After 3 weeks the Golden team snuck past the Valley team to gain a tie for 5th place and the Valley team slipped to a 7th place tie. There are 16 teams in the league.

Week 3 Results

The New Guy of the week is Eric Kelly… Yes the man with 2 first names. I talked to Eric after his round in week 3 over a pint of Bald Man Beer. Eric was eyeing his longest putt on #18 hoping it would hold and it did… Eric was drafted on the last pick of the draft as the teams wildcard according to Captain Phil. Eric is getting married this Summer and is having his Grooms Dinner here at Brookview in Late July. Unfortunately the dinner is not on a Wednesday night.
