The Weekly Rant

  • August 31 and September 7 – All tee times will be moved up by 10 minutes for the final two weeks of the regular season. For example, if you were scheduled for 4:30 p.m. you will now tee off at 4:20 p.m.

Per the BMGA Wednesday Night League Guide, a Player is considered late if he is not on the tee box at his scheduled tee time.  A “Late Player” is considered an “Absent Player” once any player in the following tee time has hit their tee shot.  For more information see page 4.

Future Events

  1. Make-up of Week #4 – As of Aug 25, “Week #4” will be made up on Sept 7. Check with your Team Captain if you have questions.
  2. WNL Playoffs – The first round of the playoffs is set for Sept 14. Conference Championships will follow on Sept 21 with the WNL Championship set for Sept 28.  Oct 5 is being held as a potential makeup date.

Reminders

  1. Pace of Play is becoming even more critical now that the sun is setting earlier each week. Here are some examples of how everyone can play a little faster:
    • Be early to your tee time.
    • Do not exceed time limit to search for a lost ball. The time limit is three (3) minutes!
    • Putting out after missing a putt vs. remarking a one footer.
    • Giving your opponent that six inch putt.
    • Playing ready golf vs. strictly following the “honors” system.
  2. If an issue arises on the course during WNL play that may impact the result of a match, please bring the matter to the WNL Director’s (or other BMGA Board Member) attention so we can try to resolve it right away.

Handicaps

  • If you are not entering your scores (or accurate scores) you are hurting yourself, your team and the people you are playing against. This includes WNL scores and “Away” scores.  To ensure an accurate handicap, you should be entering “hole by hole” scores.
  • All players are responsible for entering a correct course handicap per USGA Rule 3.2c (1). Post your scores for WNL as they are not entered by the BMGA or Brookview.
  • The WNL Director is not responsible for checking the accuracy of the player’s handicap on the scorecards. Check the GHIN App before teeing off to get your current handicap and adjust it to the Side (Front or Back) and Tees (Member or Gold).

Scorecards

  • Scorecards should be signed by at least one player from each team.
  • If someone concedes a hole, please mark an “X.”  This is especially important when both players score a 9 but the hole is conceded by the player who picks up their ball first.

Week 16 Results (08.17)

Schedule for August 24, August 31 and September 7

All players need to adjust their tee by 10 minutes. Additional measures may be needed to make sure teams in playoff contention are able to complete all matches. Team Captains will be sent additional information via email.

Metro Seniors League Finishes with a Rainout

The rain we needed finally came – enough to wash out the final Position Playoffs at Oak Marsh Golf Club on Friday, August 12. The teams decided not to reschedule so the standings after the last match hosted by Brookview the week earlier are the final standings for the season.

  1. University (207)
  2. Braemar (184)
  3. Daytona (177)
  4. Brookview Valley (168)
  5. Fountain Valley (165)
  6. Wirth (164)
  7. Columbia (157)
  8. Brookview Golden (150)
  9. Valleywood (147)
  10. Green Haven (141)
  11. Bunker Hills (139)
  12. Hiawatha (129)
  13. Como (124)
  14. Gross (113)

Valley finished in the same spot last year but Golden dropped from 2nd place to eighth this year. The Valley boys are pretty proud to finish above Golden but all of us want to take down University next season. The winnings by the two teams covered the cost to participate.

If you are 50 years old and occasionally available on Friday mornings, you too can be part of the fun. We had over two dozen players from the BMGA participate this season. Some clubs can hardly field a team each week. We’ve demonstrated to all the metro teams that Brookview is strong, competitive and fun to play. Think about next year.

Metro Seniors Wrap Regular Season

Metro Seniors finished up the season with the Valley team hosting at Brookview for the finale, with starter extraordinaire Steve Slivken.

The Golden team, languishing in 8th place took on 3rd place Daytona. As in years past, Roger Hamm took on the Daytona captain, long-time friend and former boss from 35 years ago, Don Cross. Roger spotted Don the front 9, losing 2 down but came back to win the back 9 and the match with the final putt, taking 4 points. Doug Paquette, with a field promotion to B player after is solo 4&3 win in 2 man match play also took home 4 points winning the front in run-away fashion and hanging onto the match at the end. Doug Diedrich took home 2 points on the front 9 but couldn’t hold the lead and Ward Eames struggled a bit versus a solid opponent and was swept. The 10-14 loss leaves Golden in 8th place. They will play 7th place Columbia in the playoff round at Oak Marsh.

The host team, Valley continued their winning ways scratching out a 13-11 win over 2nd place Braemar enough to put them in solo 4th for the playoff round. They will take on 3rd place Daytona at Oak Marsh. Valley trails Daytona by 9 for the season. Ramiro Sifuentes, while walking to the gold tees on #1 was heard to say “I’m playing the golds and only giving 1 shot – if I lose I am quitting golf”. Ramiro shot a net 78 and split his match by virtue of a par on 18. Dean Penk shot a nice net 73 and was able to gain 4 points in the process. Jim Husnik, the rock star, posted a nice net 75 and swept his opponent for 6 points. Ted Roberts also posted a net 75, but ran into a buzz saw and was swept.

As noted next week is the sole playoff week (at Oak Marsh where Ramiro and Roger just won in the Sr MPGA Publinks) where each team plays the one closest to them in the standings. Right now, the top 8 are:

  1. University (207)
  2. Braemar (184)
  3. Daytona (177)
  4. Brookview Valley (168)
  5. Fountain Valley (165)
  6. Wirth (164)
  7. Columbia (157)
  8. Brookview Golden (150)

The Weekly Rant

Future Events

  1. Make-up of Week #4 – As of August 4, “Week #4” will be made up on September 7. If you were scheduled to play on May 18, you are likely on the schedule. Check with your Team Captain if you have any questions or conflicts.
  2. WNL Playoffs – The first round of the playoffs is scheduled for September 14. Conference Championships will follow on September 21 with the WNL Championship scheduled for September 28.

Reminders

  1. Pace of Play is becoming even more critical now that the sun is setting earlier each week. Here are some examples of how everyone can pace of play a little faster:
