The teams and holes are set for the 2023 Lone Ranger. We are looking forward to this new format. It should be super interesting. Any guesses on the low score?
We will be doing an optional Skins Game for this event. There are 44 players, and we have no super low gross players in the pool for this tournament so it might be wide open.
Division play shuffled the deck a bit but Team Hack Attack (#3) in the GVC West Division continues to lead the league with 221 points. No team is undefeated now that Mid Round Crisis (#11) suffered their first defeat at the hands of Fairway 2 Heaven (#2) 39-41. Mid Round still holds the #2 spot with 216 points followed Bald Man Brewing (#15) and 9th Green a 9 (#9).
Remember:
If you are not scheduled to golf on any particular night, we can use you as a spotter. It can help with pace of play. To spot, just report to the pro shop and let them know and you’ll get a cart and flags for marking the ball. Common holes for spotting are #2, #3, #14, and #16.
Legibility and addition suffered this week – there were several cards where the fold forced a bit of guesswork and back calculating to determine correct scores. Seven of the 32 cards had math errors and one card was missing last names and team numbers so I had to chase down the players to complete the cards. When you sign a card, please check for these details and make clarifications where needed.
Starting Tee times were on every one of 32 matches. Six matches on the front but no matches on the back were missing end times (For the few of you that don’t know, this is supposed to be the time you completed the last hole.)
The front 9 fell behind with the first group and maintained a 2:30 pace for the night. Early groups MUST maintain the proper pace or everyone suffers. You know who you are! The back 9 started with the first three groups maintaining a 2:00 pace! The 4 PM tee time lost 20 minutes. the following two groups picked up 10 minutes but the 4:30 tee time lost another 20 minutes and the rest of the night stayed at the 2:30 pace. The expected pace on the score card is 2:08, so we can definitely improve. Keep working on it and keep your foursome on pace!
If you are in the last group (6 PM tee time) please collect the on course flags when you leave the hole and put them in the bucket on the deck at the end of your round.
Future Events
Lone Ranger – June 3, – this is a new tournament this season. Sign up by Friday to join in the fun.
WeeklyReminders
Pace of Play is critical. Here are some examples of how everyone can play a little faster:
Be early to your tee time.
Do not exceed time limit to search for a lost ball. The time limit is three (3) minutes!
Putting out after missing a putt vs. remarking a one footer.
Giving your opponent that six inch putt.
Max strokes on a hole is 9. Pick up after 8 attempts and record an “X”.
Playing ready golf vs. strictly following the “honors” system.
Everyone in the foursome is responsible for the pace of your foursome. Help each other keep moving.
If an issue arises on the course during WNL play that may impact the result of a match, please bring the matter to the WNL Director’s (or other BMGA Board Member) attention so we can try to resolve it right away.
Don’t forget to fix your ball mark and two others when you get to the green. We can all help keep Brooky looking and playing great.
Handicaps
If you are not entering your scores (or accurate scores) you are hurting yourself, your team and the people you are playing against. This includes WNL scores and “Away” scores.
All players are responsible for entering a correct course handicap per USGA Rule 3.2c (1). Post your scores for WNL as they are not entered by the BMGA or Brookview.
The WNL Director is not responsible for checking the accuracy of the player’s handicap on the scorecards. Check the GHIN App before teeing off to get your current handicap and adjust it to the Side (Front or Back) and Tees (Blue/White or Gold).
Scorecards
Please enter both the match start time and end time in the space provided.
Scorecards should be signed by at least one player from each team.
Please don’t fold the card where scores are entered – this really impacts legibility.
If someone concedes a hole, please mark an “X.” This is especially important when both players score a 9 but the hole is conceded by the player who picks up their ball first.

Final Standings in MPGA 2023 Fourball Net Flight 3
On May 20 & 21 the MPGA held their annual Fourball event at Monticello Country Club. Competing from the BMGA were a team of Towey & Sifuentes and Dave Schoeller partnered with a buddy from Tanners Brook GC.
Towey & Sifuentes struggeled on the first 9, at +1, then Jeff found his swing on the 2nd 9 and they finished day one at -4, just 3 off the lead. On day 2 they came out strong and got to -7 after 27 holes, just one off the lead. All that work must have caught up with them as the back 9 came in at +2, finishing them at -5. The good news is that is a T4 for the event. Which I am sure is a disappointment as they won this event at Elk River a year ago.
Schoeller & Hernandez were one stroke off the lead after Saturday and in a great position. They also had a nice front 9, playing alongside Sifuentes & Towey, also at -7 after 27 holes, just one off the leader. Schoeller & Hernandez played well on the last 9, including a net eagle for a skin, but could not keep up with the eventual winners (at -13) but scoring a great -10 for a 2 stroke advantage in the 2nd place position.
It was a chilly start but ended up being a great day for golf last Friday at Columbia as the Metro Sr squads played Gross (vs Valley) and Daytona (vs Golden).
The Valley Team A/B group of Ramiro Sifuentos and Dean Penk played strong all the way through and earned 11 of the possible 12 points. Darin Allen and Sheldon Silberman faired a little worse but with Silberman winning the last hole and a split for the match the Valley team got their first win of the season. Allen was shut out with some untimely missed chips. The final tally was 14-10.
The Golden Team, remained undefeated for the season, but just barely. Stan Hop, fresh off the old course in Scotland took no prisoners and swept his match with a sweet 84, net 70. Gary Ridout played well but dropped the back nine and still won the match for another 4 points. Dan Olson won the front and hung on to tie the match to garner 3 points. Chris Gaspard was shut out with his opponent shooting a net 72. The final was 13-11 win for the 4-0 Golden team.
Next week the league is off for Memorial Day weekend but things pick up the following wee at Wirth. Valley takes on Columbia (who is hanging around the middle of the pack) and Golden takes on Braemar (9th place).
Conference play brought some changes in the standings: Team Hack Attack (#3) in the GVC West Division vaulted to the top of the league with a commanding 53-27 win over Let’s Go Firebirds! reaching 178 points. Bald Man Brewing suffered their first defeat slipping into overall 3rd place while maintaining their lead in the South Division. Mid-Round Crisis continued as the only undefeated team in the league with a solid win and 177 points for 2nd place overall. Shout out to Dave Supalla with a gross 32 on the back and several on course prizes.

Legibility and addition was pretty good this week with only a few issues – Good Job scorekeepers.
Starting Tee times were on every one of 32 matches. Only two matches on the front and two matches on the back were missing end times (I did prompt a few when they first came in.)
The front 9 fell behind early but caught up and maintained a 2:20 pace for the night. The back 9 started fast and immediately fell behind with the second group but caught back up nicely and was buzzing along at a 2:10 clip and slowing slipping to a 2:20 pace until the very end where the last two groups came in at about 2:30. The expected pace on the score card is 2:08, so we can definitely improve. But overall, you guys seem to be paying attention to the pace. Keep working on it!

Gross & Net Skins
Those who are playing on May 20th can enter an optional skins contest. We are doing both NET and GROSS skins. The cost is $5 per event type – i.e. if you want to do both NET and GROSS the total cost is $10.
You can find a link to these brackets in the right-side menu at bmga.org as well.
Schedule
If you are NOT PLAYING your match on May 20th, we ask that all first-round matches are completed by June 10th at the latest. That means you should start working on scheduling your match ASAP.
What is the best way to do this:
Figure out who your next opponent is. Go to the bracket listed above and find your name in one of the four regions.
Once you know your opponent, find their contact information. You can go to members.bmga.org and login. The fourth tab on the top is Membership.
Email or call them.
Don’t delay setting up the dates. It takes time to coordinate schedules, especially with four players.
What happens if I miss the deadline for each round? The committee will investigate and either flip a coin or pick a winner. Don’t force us into that please.
Handicaps
In Individual Match Play each player gets 100% of their handicap.
In 2-Person Match Play, per USGA Handicap Appendix C, each player gets 90% of the handicap.
You can use the USGA GHIN Application to determine this.
On Friday with the course playing long and hard, the Metro Sr squads played University (vs Valley) and Valleywood (vs Golden).
The Valley Team teed off first with Greg Donahue playing league President & Brookview nemesis Skip Schultz. Donahue split the front, but Skip put the pedal down and took the rest of the points. Darrin Allen unfortunately was swept. Dan Peters (the elder) pummeled his opponent and won all 6 points. Randy Zejdlik did not have his best game and also got swept. The final tally was 7-17.
The Golden Team, undefeated for the season, took a gamble and sent 2 rookies out. Dave Repinski came out swinging shot a co-medalist for the day 80 (net 71) and took all 6 in the A match. Mark Steinhauser lost the front side, but came back to win the 2nd 9 and halve the match for a 3 point split. Steve Slivken, trying to bounce back repeated the Steinhauser effect by losing the front, winning the back and splitting the match for 3 more. D player rookie Chris Gaspard who started emailing, calling, texting & faxing the captains in January about getting on a team comes out with a 2 point win on the front, but cannot hold the momentum and loses the back 9 and the match for 2 points. The final was 14-10 win for the 3-0 Golden team.
Next week we play at Columbia where Valley takes on Gross (who only managed 1 point this week) and Golden will have it’s mettle tested versus Daytona (12th place).
Summer weather in early May – Glorious! The greens are speeding up and the course is in good shape. Bald Man Brewing continues to lead the league with Mid-Round Crisis close on their heels, only a half point back. Brooky Strong leads the Golden Valley Conference only 2-1/2 points back. The West division is pretty tight with all four teams in the top half of the league scoring so far. The season is young and conference play begins next week
Remember:
This is the last week a player without an established handicap can utilize the Callaway handicap calculator. Starting in Week 5, a player without sufficient rounds in to establish a handicap is playing with a scratch handicap. See the League Guide for all the rules. Get your rounds in and posted!
If you are not scheduled to golf on any particular night, we can use you as a spotter. It can help with pace of play. To spot, just report to the pro shop and let them know and you’ll get a cart and flags for marking the ball. Common holes for spotting are #2, #3, #14, and #16.
Legibility and addition could be better but almost all the cards were pretty clear – Good Job scorekeepers. Make sure your math is correct.
Starting Tee times were on every one of 32 matches. 20 matches listed their ending time. One team had the wrong team numbers. Captains – make sure your players know your team number.
The 5:40 tee time on the front took 2:30 to finish and was at least 15 minutes longer than the group ahead of them. On the back, the 4:00 group was 23 minutes slow and the league never caught up with the 6:00 group finishing at 8:40 PM. (That’s after sunset guys!) Keep PACE!!!

1st Place went to the team of Hoffman + Sifuentes + Smith + Ahtou. They earn themselves $55 and 100 BMGA Cup Points. That puts each of these four into the early lead for the end of year BMGA Cup Champion.
2nd Place goes to the team of Grove + Peters + Zurn + Jocelyn. That includes an Eagle on Hole #11 for Matt Grove. Not only throwing them up into second place, but winning closet to the pin in two.
