Last Friday, Brookview’s two teams (Golden and Valley) squared off against each other at the Valleywood course in Apple Valley. First of all, the course has undergone some improvements since the last time we played there. They finally completed restoring multiple tee boxes on the 3rd hole (which played as a par 4 from all of the tees), and the improvements on the par 5 15th hole have been completed. The greens were in great shape.
All of the matches were characterized by the need for Golden to give strokes to the Valley players (7, 8, 6, and 8), and because of the quirky stroke index distribution of the Valleywood course, the final 3 holes were stroke holes for all of the Valley players. Nonetheless, Golden prevailed for the most part. Golden’s newest player, John Von Eschen (net 80) barely lost the front to Valley’s Doug Giron (net 76), but came back to win the back by 2 holes, for 4 points. Tom Hansen (net 73) pushed the front with Ted Roberts (net 75), but won the back by 2 holes for 5 points. Steve Slivken (net 83) barely lost the front to Darin Allen (net 86), but decisively won the back and overall for 4 points. Dan Olson (net 82) pushed the front with Richard Courtney (net 86), but melted down on the back to lose it for 1 point. Totals: Golden 14, Valley 10. No change in the standings, except Golden fell into a tie for 2nd place.
