Steve asked to share the below with the league.
Hey gang!
I want to take a few moments to share with all of you some health issues I’ve been dealing with for these last few months.
Back in September I was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Since that time, I’ve taken various chemotherapy measures to fight the disease, but unfortunately, my cancer is of a very progressive nature.
We’ve recently changed the program to abandon chemo, and I’m now in hospice care. For the most part, I actually feel relatively comfortable, but I’ve lost a bunch of weight and now also deal with fatigue, etc.
Unfortunately, it looks as if my days of swinging the club are over, but I’m still hoping to feel good enough at some point to stop by and say “hello” in person.
I’d like to make clear just how significant being part of the Brookview League has been over these last 15 or so years. Fantastic competition, lots of laughs, and even a little bit of victory sprinkled on top.
Not sure exactly how much fairway I have in front of me, but those in the know are predicting somewhere between 2 and 4 weeks.
I appreciate you guys keeping me in your thoughts and prayers.
-Steve Binenstock
Steve, I have always enjoyed our conversations and banter. I consider you one of the good guys at Brookie. Please know that you are not alone. We are all thinking of you and your family. Shalom.
-Roger
Steve, you always had a smile on your face and can I feel a hint of that smile even while sharing such scary news. You’ll always be part of Brookview history, but more importantly you’re part of Young Gunz history (attached pic via 2015, I believe). You may be down in your match, but keep grinding out those half and full points where you can. And really hope you can make it out to the course on a Wednesday night. Much love. -Brad
Steve,
Thank you for sharing. Brookview has been a second home to many and I am happy you found comfort and laughter on the course. I enjoy the friendly competition and the collective energy of everyone. You will be in our prayers and memories.
Steve-
Sorry hear about your health issues. Cancer sucks! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Much like a complex appraisal assignment, I know you will plow through this and achieve credible results! Will be thinking about you on the track and the Brooky deck. Reach out if you need anything! – Brent
Here’s another picture of Steve with a happy team a a trophy
Always a pleasure to play 9 and shoot the crap after.
As I read this my body is filled with great sadness. Although I have been in the league for eighteen years, I feel I just got to know you. Much of this is due to recently being paired together multiple times on the Sliv Tour. I paired us together as I always enjoyed your laid back demeanor and sense of humor. Be strong and hope to see you soon on the deck.
Damn Steve….I have read your post several times and tear up each time. What does one even say. Eventually….Father Time puts up a tough match for all of us. All of the BMGA is rooting for you to take him to extra holes. Know that the BMGA is the best mens club in the state because of guys like you. Peace to you and your family Steve.
Steve and I have been best friends for 19+ years. I don’t know what say, other than I am devastated. We shared many hobbies and interests… put thousands of miles on our motorcycles riding together, played countless games of backgammon, and of course, many many golf rounds here and in California over the last six winters. Man, how precious were these good old times, and I am thankful for that. I saw Steve twice this last week and cherished every moment with him. Just wanted to share this.
Here is another Championship Photo!
Always a smile on his face!
Hey Stevo,
Sorry to hear of your C issue. Sucks. Hope you can get to Brookie soon. Next week actually looks warm!
I couldn’t believe all the pictures you were posted in as a championship team. Good Lord, you must be the secret sauce.
Is any good Brit would say “ keep your pecker up!” (Chin) Good advice anytime except when swinging your club.
Thanks for helping BMGA be the best competitive social golf group in the cities.

Steve-
In college, the teachings of St. Francis de Sales influenced me. You are a perfect example of his instruction “Be who you are and be that well.” Your smile, good-natured manner, and positive attitude made it easy to be around you. Because of your self-assured, unpretentious, fun loving and competitive nature, I enjoyed golfing with you in WNL or the Sliv Tour. There was never enough time to sit and talk after the round. So, my heart sank when you told me why you were on medical leave. These last many months, you have been in an unfair fight yet handled the situation with grace and poise. May your time in hospice be calm and peaceful.
Shalom, my friend.
