Larry Larson

On behalf of the BMGA board it is with a very heavy heart we note the passing of Larry “One Putt” Larson this morning. Many of us have been Larry’s teammate during his 32 years in the BMGA. Larry was a great friend on and off the course. Helping many of us navigate the tax world throughout the offseason. Larry’s presence on the course and grabbing a drink after the round will be missed.

  1. This saddens me. It always saddens me when we lose a member. Larry and I came into the league around the same time. We played many rounds together and developed a relationship in which we got in each other’s kitchen quite a bit. We each enjoyed it. Whenever I saw his name on an event sign…..Larry “One Putt” Larson…I would change it to Larry “Three Putt” Larson. When he found out he would search me out and say….”Hey Mangold!”….I knew what was coming….lol. We were partners years back on the State 24-Man championship match at Bunker Hills….which Brookview won by the way. Larry carried me all day long and we won our match. I think we closed them out on 16. On the Par 5 18th I hit two bad shots….just like I was hitting all day….but then hit my persimmon 5-wood to about five feet and made the birdie putt. For years after that I would say to Larry….”Remember when I hit that 5-wood on 18 at Bunker to win our match….to clinch the State title for Brooky?!?” He would always look at me with a disgusted look. I got such a chuckle out of that.

Larry and Sheldon were great friends. Some of you may not know that they were state and nationally ranked handball players. I will miss Larry. We solved many problems of the world over a beer on the Brooky patio. Enjoy the BMGA and the friends you have gained. Enjoy your rounds at Brooky….the good and the bad. The loss of Larry is another reminder that our rounds are limited and you never know when your last one will be. Rest in peace One Putt.

  2. Larry taught me golf – so you can all blame him for having to put up with me. He and I go way back to high school days. We did many things together and he was still in the middle of much of what I do. I will miss him for many things, but mostly the way he brought people together.
