It was chilly, brisk and windy June Saturday morning for the 2-Man Rotation event. There were 22 teams spread over 3 flights. The hole locations were also set up extremely difficult with some of them in places that most competitors have never seen.
Once again we had some wonderfully compacted scoring in each flight. 5 of the 6 groups in Flight #1 were only separated by 3 strokes (72-75). 7 of the 9 groups in Flight #2 were only separated by 5 strokes (78-83). And in Flight #3, 5 of the 7 groups were separated by 8 strokes (80-88).
As seems to always be the case with the 2-Man Rotation, the scores, in all flights were very tight through the first 12 holes and first 2 formats of scramble and better ball. However, the tournament was once again decided as each team progressed through the alternate shot format. Separation within each flight began to occur and those that played well in the alternate shot format on the final 6 holes were able to move themselves up the leaderboard. It was fun to use the new “live scoring” app and watch the leaderboard begin to adjust. In the end, hole 18 played a pivotal role to the finishing order in each flight.
When all was said and done, flight #1 finished in tie for 1st between 2 teams with a final score of 72(E). Flight 2 also finished in a tie for 1st between 2 teams with a score of 78(+6). Flight 3 was the only flight that did not have a tie with a winning score of 80(+8).
