Hi guys. I was asked about playing out of turn in match play (Wednesday Night League). Nearly all of our local rules in WNL are geared towards increasing the speed of play. Apparently there was some discussion about this on the course last week.

We do not have a rule for playing out of turn in match play.

There is no penalty for playing out of turn. However, if you do play out of turn, your opponent can ask you to re-play the shot.

The board will consider a local rule if needed. Please comment with your thoughts.

Faster play….faster play….faster play….for WNL. Weekend event is different but WNL is all about pace of play.

Doesn’t ready golf imply loose application of order of play rules? I vote for faster play at all times. Note that even under USGA rules you can finish out in stroke play. Or more accurately, you are never “required” to mark your ball and always have the option of finishing instead of marking if a fellow competitor wants you to mark.
