Because we are playing Match Play for the weekly 8 matches, I feel the “team” that wins more of the individual matches (5-4, 6-3, 7-2…) should be awarded one additional point. So, a 5-3 team matches won becomes 6-3. A tied match, 4-4, would be 4.5-4.5.

Example of this being a fairer scoring is:
Current scoring – Team A wins 6 matches each 5-4.
    Team B wins 2 matches each 7-2.
    Final score = 40-40. Tie.
Proposal. – Team A wins 7-2. Not tied!!!

There are three things to separate here, points (essentially holes won), team wins, and individual wins. Overall, the wins / losses don’t count for anything. We keep track of it for fun but everything is based around points: MVP, standings/ playoffs, shootout, etc. Each week is worth 80 points not 8 wins.

We do a modified match play currently since each hole is worth a point vs the entire 9 being worth 1 point. The board has discussed removing the bonus point. The bonus was cut from 4 points to 1 point ~5 years ago. When the bonus was 4 points it was tied to net strokes and not holes won, essentially having you play for two different point pools as the same time.

Your scenario is a great argument for removing the bonus point. Team A won 34 holes to Team B’s 38 but ended up tied.

One concern of changing to true single point match play is handicaps. If you lose the first 5 holes and the match is over, how hard will someone play if they aren’t playing for anything. If you lose the first 4, maybe even 3, the odds of coming back are pretty low in a 9 hole match. Would it still be fun to play knowing you can’t contribute to the team come the 6th hole, possibly earlier? There are issues with handicaps, rounds being posted, posted on time, correctly, etc. I don’t believe they are wide spread but they do come up. I’d be concerned handicaps would become a larger issue if we moved to singe point match play scoring system.
