Marty Mangold
ParticipantGentlemen,
I am a fairly easy going guy. Today pushed my limits. How on earth did it take 5 hours and 5 minutes to play a round of golf?!? How is the first group 20 minutes behind after 9 holes?!? We all want to win and play well…..but for crying out loud….if I am going to play bad…..I can do that in 4 hours just as easily as I can in 5! A few thoughts:
1 – NOBODY needs to shoot the pin for yardage from 50 yards or less…..seriously!
2 – 10+ handicappers don’t need to read putts from multiple angles.
3 – 2 ft putts – if you lag to 2 ft….step up and finish as long as you aren’t standing in somebody’s line! Yes…..I know you may miss that sucker every once in awhile….but what a waste of time to remark and go through your whole routine again.
4 – If you have honors….get moving and be the first person to the next tee box and fire away. Too often the first person that is supposed to hit is the last one to the tee box.
5 – BE ACCOUNTABLE! If you are away….it is your responsibility to be the first to hit a shot or putt. Don’t fumble around and dillydally and then tell someone else to go ahead and hit their shot or putt first. The definition of Ready-Golf has changed over the years. It has now become….”Hey..you go ahead and play first because I don’t have my act together!” It is not incumbent upon me or anyone else to play ready golf due to your lagging behind.
Seriously guys….today was unacceptable.
Sincerely,
Brookview National Historian

Roger HammModeratorHey Marty, I agree that the pace was horrid Sat. I am not sure that I agree with all your solutions, but continuous putting and ready golf are certainly two things we can do that should improve things immediately.
I think that Sunday was better and I want to thank Richard Brynteson for going out and being our on course time keeper. If that helped, we can have someone in the first group do that for future weekend events.
I also think that ball spotters would help too, in certain locations (between 3 & 16 / between 7 & 16) would be 2 good spots. If folks agree, how about someone volunteer to play early in the President’s cup and then go be a ball spotter after the round?
