On Friday in lovely conditions, the Metro Seniors Brookview teams fell into battle with each other at Bunker Hills.
In the A player matchup, veterans Jim Sanford (Golden) played Larry Larson (Valley). Jim had to give 2 to Larry and that resulted in a split front 9. Larry gets to a quick 2 up on the back only to watch Jim win 4 of the last 6 holes and sneak a win on the back 9. Golden – 5 | Valley 1.
In the B player matchup, Steve Slivken (golden) was giving Dean Penk (Valley) 3 shots. The front 9 wasnt close as Slivken stumbled and Penk swept the leg. Slivken comes out firing on the back winning 3 straight, but Penk doubles down and wins the game, set, match. Golden – 5 | Valley – 7.
The C player match was Golden Captain Roger Hamm vs Darin Allen (Valley). Darin gets a slow start and Roger goes 3 up after 4 holes and holds on to win the front 2 up. Darin steadies himself and the back is much closer, all square at 17th tee box, Roger manages a par to win that hole and then the side and match after both par 18. Golden – 11 | Valley – 7.
The D player match was Valley Captain Sheldon Silberman vs Golden former MVP Dan Olson with Dan giving 2 shots. The front 9 was close, with Dan winning on the 9th hole. The back 9 was a see saw affair with stumbles by both. It was all square on the 18th tee and Dan was able to sink a putt to win that side by 1 as well. Golden – 17 | Valley – 7.
The standings after week 2 have Valley in last place, but closing the gap and Golden moving into a tied for 2nd with Fountain Valley, 3 back of leader Hiawatha. Individual results are here
Next week we play at Fountain Valley where Golden takes on Valleywood (7th place) and Valley plays 9th place University.
