The Golden Team, undefeated through 4 weeks, fell to Braemar. Steve Slivken was in a tight match all day and his net 74 was good enough for a 3-3 split match, Jim Sanford had a slow start, dropping the front 9, but managed to grab the back for 2 points. Gary Scharmer came out strong and wont the front, but stumbled on the back a bit, but held on to split the match for another 3-3 split card. First time starter Dave Bialke didn’t have his best game and his opponent dropped a net 69 on him. The final was 8-16 loss for the now 4-1 Golden team.
The Valley Team were also beat 8-16 by Columbia. Greg Donahue shot a net 73 but wasn’t good enough versus his net 71 opponent and was blanked. Ramiro Sifuentes, also in a tight match shot his net 75 and lost the first 9, but bounced back against his opponent’s net 77 to win the 2nd 9 and halve the match 3-3. Doug Paquette shot a very nice net 72 but pulled an opponent that shot net 70. Somehow Doug won 5 of 6 points in that close one! Doug Diedrich unfortunately fell ill and was unable to complete his match. We hope that he is doing better.
The standings after week 5 have Valley still in last place, but closing with Valleywood managing only 1 point this week. Golden dropped from 2nd to a tie for 5th, showing just how tight the entire league is.
