After two rainouts and a week off it was sure nice to finally have some nice golf weather!! I think everyone that played would agree it was a beautiful day to play, especially with the golf course being all ours with a shotgun start. Most groups finished in just over four hours.
Things are sure tight at the top now. Only a four point spread from first to forth place. However, the BMGA teams are not in the top four. In fact, they are in the bottom four places in the 14 team league.
Some call Daytona “dogleg Daytona” for plethora of dogleg fairways. That and the primarily domed greens presented some challenges for our players. Competing against Hiawatha, The Valley team played some good golf with net scores in the low 70’s for three of the players. Unfortunately the Hiawatha team did even better. Ted Roberts was swept when his opponent shot a net 67! Mark Steinhauser finally got on the board with 4 points winning the front nine and the match 1-up. Captain Sheldon Silberman birdied two holes but could not beat a net par. He did well to win the last three holes to tie the back nine for 1 point. Randy Zejdlik shot a net 74 while his opponent was hot and cold. Randy won the back and the match for 4 points. Hiawatha won the match 15-9. Valley dropped a spot to 13th place.
The Golden team dropped from 7th place to 11th place with a lackluster 6-18 performance against forth place Columbia. Jim Stetler earned 2 points shooting a net 73 loosing to a net 72 in a close match. Rahul Tamhane started hot on the front nine winning the side and carrying over enough points to take the match and earn 4 points. Rahul shot a nice net 69 but his opponent stayed right with him shooting a net 71. Jim Sanford and Steve Couture struggled – a lot – and were skunked.
Current Standings This week’s results
Next week we play at Valleywood where Golden takes on Hiawatha looking for revenge for their treatment of Valley this week. Valley takes on last place Como hoping to get some big points and move up a few spots.
