Hop shoots an Ace at Columbia in Metro Seniors

It was a miserable Friday at Columbia; at least it started out dry, but it was cold and windy, and then the rain began.  But the Golden team completed their matches against Valleywood, and prevailed nicely.  Steve Slivken (net 69) and Pete Steichen (our new A player, net 68, gross 76) both swept their opponents for 6 points each (Pete had to come back from 2 down on the front).  Paul Yakshe (net 72) continued his solid play, easily winning the front, and pushing the back, for 5 points.  Stan Hop (net 70) lost the front, but aced the 8th hole!, won the back, and pushed the overall for 3 points.  Great job – 20 out of a possible 24 points.  and now in 5th place, 7 points ahead of Brookview Valley.

Brookview Valley struggled a bit and mutually decided split the back nine end the match after twelve holes in the the deteriorating weather. Jeff Towey got off to a slow start going down two on the front. With the split on the back, he only got 1 point. Chuck Bernardy was having another solid round and was up 3 on the front with a gross 39. The split earned him the match and 5 points. Ted Roberts, like Towey got off to slow start and only earned one point but Emmy Yates was able to tie the front, and, with the split earned 3 points for a total team tally of 10 points. The team remains ensconced in 7th place.
