Home match helps Metro Sr teams reverse course.

The Golden team hosted at Brookview on a hot Friday and was able to narrowly defeat 3rd place Columbia 13-11 ending their 2 match skid. Tom Hansen dropped a couple of holes quick, but went on a run, winning 6 of 7 in a nice stretch to win 4-2. Steve Slivken was down but nabbed holes 16-18 to win the back 9 and halve the match 3-3. Mike Deede, making a rare start, dropped the first 9 but won 7 of the last 9 to win 4-2. Steve Shellenbaum was one down on the 18th tee, but couldn’t square the match losing 2-4. Golden is T6th right now, 20 points out of 1st place and only 7 points out of 2nd.

The Valley team, still trying to climb out of the cellar stomped Bunker Hills 19-5 in a very convincing fashion, with every player winning their match. Greg Donahue, despite being a Patriots fan, contributed again with a nice 5-1 win in a very close match. Chuck Bernardy, proud of taking a 7 on #7, giving a stroke and still winning the hole, also won 5-1. Ted Roberts, doing Ted Roberts things, shot a net 73 and duplicated the 5-1 mark. Richard Courtney, lost 4 straight on the front 9, then came back to win 5 straight on the back and win the match 4-2. Valley is still dead last, (14th) but only 7 points out of 12th.

Next Friday is at Hiawatha. Who knows how many more matches we will play there? Valley takes on 3rd place Daytona. Golden plays the host, Hiawatha.
