The Golden team played versus host Hiawatha and were able to come away with a 13-9 win on a hot Friday with a course that is in very poor shape. The A/B team of Steve Slivken and Stan Hop had a can of whoop ass handed to them as their opponents enjoyed the home cooking with nets of 69 and 73. They could only manage 1 point of the 12 available by virtue of Slivken parring 8 & 9 to halve the front 9. Gary Scharmer and Roger Hamm were watching this go down in front of them and decided to take umbridge. Scharmer shot a great net 72, and Hamm found a game after nearly acing the 3rd hole of the day and finishing with a net 67. 2 great scores by those fine gentlemen swept all 12 points leaving the total at 13-11 win for the visiting team.
The Valley team, still holding onto hope, played versus a quality Daytona team. Greg Donahue shot a solid net 75 and was able to sweep all 6 points. (We won’t talk about his 0 handicap opponent shooting an 85) Ted Roberts, promoted to B player after his fine showing last week, battled versus his opponents net 74 and collected 2 points on the front by winning 8 & 9.Dan Peters the Elder shot a very nice net 73 but could only manage to tie the match versus a net 75. Randy Zejdlik slapped around a net 78 but also managed to split the match versus a net 75. The final tally was another Valley win 14-10.
Golden is now in 6th place and just 10 points out of third.
Valley is still in the basement, even after back to back wins, but there is a FOUR! way tie for ninth, just 6 points ahead of them.
Next Friday is at Daytona. Valley takes on Theo Wirth and Golden plays versus Como.
