Week ten of the 14 week season was hosted by Daytona on a great day for golf. The forecasts early in the week looked bad, but the actual day was sunny and warm. Unfortunately, neither team was particularly hot.
Golden was able to squeak out a 13-11 win over Columbia. Pete Steichen shot a net 73 to sweep his six points. Roger Hamm (net 70) could only retain a split against a net 73 for 3 points, winning the front and holding on for the match tie. Jeremy Hagen had a slow start but won the back and the match with a nice net 72. Captain Dan Olson (net 75) was swept by a net 72.
Valley started hot but faded down the stretch with both the A and B players getting swept. Jeff Towey (net 80) had a battle on the front losing by one hole but his opponent took off on the back winning the first 4 holes for the back and the match. Mark Steinhauser (net 83) started off winning the first hole and was tied going into the 9th hole. He lost #9 and his opponent started the back with three wins to bury Mark. Chuck Bernardy (net 76) and Randy Zejdlik (net 79) both lost their front nine matches down 1 – a close battle. But both of them finished strong to win the back and their matches to gain 4 points each avoiding a team disaster with an 8-16 loss.
Golden moved up to 2nd place after Heritage Links took a drubbing by the home team Daytona. They are 21 points behind University and are going to have a tough time catching them. Valley slipped up to 7th place, but only 11 points separate them from 3rd place.
Current Standings This week’s results
Next week we play in the at Valleywood where the two Brookview teams play each other. Should be a huge grudge match!
