The weather was improved from the previous week but play was tough. Golden took on Gross and Valley took on the University team. Golden maintained their 5th place spot while Valley continues to hold last place in the league.
Valley (Towey, Bernardy, Penk and Zejdlik) had tough opponents with Towey running up against league president, Skip Schultz. Skip was the Gross medalist for the day with a 71 (net 65) far exceeding Towey’s net 79. Bernardy shot a nice net 71 but was also skunked by a net 67. Penk was the team hero winning the front up 2 , losing the back -1 on the 17th hole but taking the match at +1 for four points, the only points the team would get. Zejdlik looked good early getting up 1 hole after three holes but faltering the rest of the way in a solid defeat.
The Golden team (Cook, Slivken, Couture and captain Dan Olson) gained 10 points. A player Matt Cook ran into a buzz saw in Larry Mickelson’s net 74 to lose the front and back by 2 and 1 holes respectively for 0 points. But B player, Steve Slivken, while not shooting his age (75), did shoot 77 (a net 66) for all 6 points and winning the Net Medalist for the day! C player Steve Couture barely lost the front (by 1), but on the back, after he was all square after 16, rallied to win 17 and 18 to win the back and the total for 4 points. And finally, D player Dan Olson got too far behind on both the front and the back to overcome the solid play of his opponent (net 73), for 0 points.

Next week Valley takes on 2nd place Daytona and Golden plays 3rd place Heritage Links at Bunker Hills.
