Both the Golden Team and the Valley team have been competitive over the last two weeks, Golden won with 16 points against 6th place Wirth and Valley tied for 12 points against 11th place Como at Hiawatha on June 26. Last week, Golden only managed 7 points against the 4th place host team, Daytona but Valley scored 19 points against last place Green Haven and moved up a couple places in the standings.
Highlights from the June 26th matches at Hiawatha:
- For Golden:
- Steve Slivken shot a gross 84 (net 77) and taking the the front up 2 but getting crushed on the back
- John VonEschen shot a gross 79 (net 73).
- Dan Olson shot a gross 86 (net 72) with 3 birdies, but lost the last hole (9, the one stroke hole) to tie the back.
- Tom Bischel pushed the last hole (the one stroke hole for him). So Dan and Tom each got 5 points.
- For Valley
- Richard Brynteson in his debut on the Brookview Valley team shot a gross 74 (net 73) and took medalist honors, winning the front and the match but loosing the back on the 18th hole to a birdie.
- Chuck Bernardy shot a net 76, tying his opponent overall but only winning 2 points on the front.
- Dave Schoeller (net 89) had a tough start but rallied for a tie on the back to get 1 point
- Richard Courtney led the team with a net 72 and gathering 5 points.

Highlights from last week’s (July 10) matches at Daytona
- Valley
- Richard Brynteson continued his winning ways with a gross 76 (net 72) tying the back nine but garnering 5 points for the match
- Ramiro Sifuentes shot a net 70, won the front 3-up and lost the back 2-down but wins the match for 4 points
- Doug Giron, in his Valley debut for 2026, shoots a net 67, takes the net medalist award for the day and only gets 4 points for his great play. His opponent shot a net 70 from the short tees and Doug was still giving him 7 strokes. He gets a birdie with a stroke on the last hole to take the back nine.
- Richard Courtney came through for the team getting all 6 points playing the card because his opponent was a no show. He still had to beat the course (shot net 77) to get all 6 points, however.
- Golden
- Steve Slivken did not have his best day while his opponent shot a net 72, shooting a gross 36 on the front and going up 6 holes. Steve recovered a bit to tie him on the back to get one point.
- Stan Hop had an average day, which was not nearly enough to beat his opponent who shot a net 68. Stan goes down swinging with no points for the team.
- Steve Couture kept things close on the front, tying for one point but could not keep pace on the back losing the back nine 2-down and the match. Steve’s opponent shot a net 73.
- Captain Dan Olson (net 73), saved the team getting 5 points, staying close on the front for a tie and then keeping the pressure on on the back for a 3-up win.

This week Valley takes on 12th place Wirth and Golden plays 13th place Como at Hiawatha. Both teams are looking to climb the standings, as the top teams are mostly paying each other.
