Well what a whirlwind weekend for the 3-Ball. After torrential rains on Thursday knocked Brookview down to a modified 9 hole course, we were in scramble mode to try and make sure the tournament could still be held. Luckily, our fearless President was able to pull some strings and get us some tee times at Meadowbrook. After a few last minute drops, we pushed on with 8 teams. We held the auction on Friday night and reached a respectable $1,350 after the bidding ended.
Saturday arrived and we couldn’t have asked for a better fall day. The sun was shining and the greens were fast. After the rounds had concluded there were 2 teams that had comfortable lead going into Sunday, but there were plenty of teams still within striking distance. The team of Koppy/ Koppy came in with the low score of 64, followed up by Bernardy/ Hop at 65, the other teams came in 5 and 6 shots back.
Sunday gave us more great weather and some great, and not so great scoring. The beginning of the day started off with a bang! On the Par 3 #2, Kevin Monogue holes out from 140 yards and capitalizes on the last chance of the year for the hole in one prize. Congrats Kevin on your first ACE!

Alas, there was still a lot of golf to be played and after a few more hole we saw scores from the complete opposite end of the spectrum. With super fast greens, and a hole placement that rivaled that of hole #13 at Brookview, we saw some of our highest scores of the day. With the par 4 #5 averaging a double bogey, we give the prize of highest score to Sheldon Silberman, who takes an 11 on this tough hole and and could have a good laugh at the absurdity of the pin placement. As scores rolled in Hop/ Bernardy had the clubhouse lead with a 214 (149)(65). There was no movement on the scoreboard it was the Koppy/ Koppy duo’s tournament to lose. Well they came through and posted 210(146)(64). Congrats to Dick and Lee Koppy! (2nd Hop/ Bernardy 214, 3rd Stoner/ Nelson 220)
Below is the prize report from the weekend.
Congrats Kevin!!
I believe that aces during the WNL final and the Shootout would count for the pot as well.
Big shout out to Prez Towey for his HEROIC efforts to save the tournament.
Without him, this would have been cancelled.
Thanks Jeff and Matt for all your hard work and support of the club!
Nice recap of the 2018 Calcutta. I would also like to thank Jeff (and Matt) for their work on keeping the Calcutta alive this year. I also enjoyed playing at Meadowbrook a course I had not played since before the infamous flood. Congrats to Kevin on the ace and thanks for the post round shot!
