In a match for the ages veterans Pete Steichen (R) and Gerry Meier (L) played for the Single Man Match Play Championship.
Gerry played from the Golds and Pete still have to give him two shots. Pete comes out strong with a great chip on 1 to save par and an outstanding putt on 2 for another par to go 2 up quick. Gerry, frustrated with a poor lie in the rough on 3 goes the old fashioned route and hits a wedge within a few feet and makes the birdie putt. This propels him to a string of 5 straight pars on the front 4 up lead after 8. Pete, not to be denied, remembering his match versus Ramiro, wins 9 with a nice par. Gerry doubles down with another string of pars on 10, 11 and 12. Pete struggles to keep up with this only parring 12 and dropping 10 & 11. On 13 Gerry hits a wonderful approach that comes off the slope behind the pin and rolls to pin high about 12 feet away. He makes the uphill left to righter for a birdie and another won hole. That makes it an astounding 6 & 5 win.
