Rudy Luther Toyota 3 Ball (Calcutta) Results

On a beautiful day 26 teams battled for the largest calcutta pot in BMGA History. Full results are here: https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/10315283464684881850

After the best ball 18 holes, everyone was chasing Ben Zurn (net 68) & Jeff Towey (net 74) who combined for a team net 61.

Standings after the Best Ball Portion

That was good for a 3 stroke lead over Chris Gaspard & Patrick Hoffman, 4 over the teams of Kevin Monogue & Michael Saless; Brett Notvedt & Michael Ryan; Brian Beitlich & Dan Grubb. Four other teams were at net 66.

As always the tournament turns on the final 9 holes where both balls count.
Towey & Zurn continued their solid play and turned in a net 71 (-1) even after dropping shots on 8 & 9. None of the chasers could better that…except

Gomez / Syverson Net 67

Mike Gomez & Scott Syverson come charging with their 67 (-5) on the back of Gomez who shoots a 35 (net 31!) with gross birdies on 2, 8 and 9. They closed the gap by 5 strokes in the last 4 holes.

The end result was a 1 stroke win by Zurn & Towey over Gomez & Syverson.

Gaspard wins Indy Match Play Title

Individual Match Play Finals Featuring Matt Haws vs. Chris Gaspard.

The match was played on Friday, September 13th at 11am on a beautiful day.

Matt had to give Chris 16 stokes, so Gaspard was stroking on every hole except for 5 and 17. On the front 9, Chris had four pars on 3, 5, 6, and 8. Matt had pars on 1, 2, and 7. We finished the front 9 with Gaspard shooting a 49 and Matt shot a 42. Gaspard was up 1 and going on to hole 10. After 10, Matt tied the match up and on 11 he went ahead a hole. On 12, both scored a 4 to even the match again. Gaspard parred both 13 and 14 to go up 2 in the match. We went onto hole 17 with Gaspard up 2 with 2 to go. The wheels came off for Gaspard and he forgot how to hit the ball scoring a 6 on 17 and a pick up on 18. Haws stayed consistent with four pars on the back 9 including a par on 17 and a bogey on 18. The match was tied and going into a playoff on hole 1. Matt hit right, in front of the pond. Gaspard missed the drive and did not make the fairway. Gaspard hit a long fairway wood into the left rough 100 yards out. Haws hit the green and bounced over setting him up for a short chip shot. Gaspard hit the green from 100 out and left himself a 20 footer. Haws chipped on, but did not get the ball to roll down the hill toward the pin on the front of the green. Haws putted downhill and missed the hole by less than half an inch, and leaving him with a 3 foot uphill putt. Gaspard putted and left it short. Haws hit the 3 foot putt for a five. Gaspard putted in from 2.5 feet to also get a five.

It did not occur to Gaspard that the match was won with the stroke that Haws had to give on the hole.

Final Four

2024 Stableford comes down to the wire

This event is to honor the past Presidents and Hall of fame members. There is a special flight for these guys, and Doug Paquette has won it about a million times. See the History Too bad his back has held him out this year.
For full results see this link and click results LINK

In the Pres / HOF Division (net) It was a tight match between Richard Brynteson, Curt Medina and Darin Allen. Richard’s par on #18 got him the 1 point he needed to win.

In the Gross Division, 5 time winner, Howard Hoffman had an early tee time and tried to hold on with his +16 points +16 was the lowest winning score and was set last year by Howie.
Richard Brynteson teed off almost an hour later and was chasing all day. His birdie on 12 got him to 13 points with 6 holes remaining. He got one more on #13 then stumbled in with bogies on 14, 16 and 17. Needing a par on 18 to tie and having to do that with an up and down fashion, chipping from near the bunker. He got it to a couple of feet and rolled it home to secure the T1.

In the Net division it was all Jeff Olson, getting a massive 20 points on the front 9 with a gross 42, net 31. He really stumbled on the back and only could get 7 more points, but the 27 points was enough for a 2 point win over Richard Brynteson and 3 points over T3 guys Curt Medina, Darin Allen and Charles Bernardy.

Club Championship
Howard Hoffman finished Round 1 with a slim 2 stroke advantage over Dave Supalla (69/71). Dave caught him at the turn on Sunday and held a 1 stroke lead after they each birdied #13. Then Howie turned on the gas while Dave tripped up with a double on 14. Howie played 14-18 in 3 under par while Dave played it in 4 over. The result was a 6 stroke victory. This is Howie’s 11 overall Championship, breaking a tie with Jim Sanford with 10 (all Senior).

Senior Club Championship
After Day 1 there was a four way tie for first between Tom Nestvold (2 time defending champ) , Tim Lueder, Perry Jacobson (winner ’17 & ’19) and Mike Manion at +2.
Manion was the only player to break 40 on the front 9 on Sunday and went to the back 9 with a 3 stroke lead. He also finished strong and played the back in -1 and won his first Senior Championship in style with an 8 stroke victory.
With that win, Mike becomes the 4th player in BMGA history to win both the Championship & Senior Championship and the first since 1992 Senior win by Bill Cook.

Super Senior Club Championship
This is a one day, 18 hole net event open to those 65 and over.
Ted Roberts played the front 9 in net even par and held a narrow 1 stroke lead over Richard Courtney and Martin Peyer (both #1). The back 9 was the difference maker as Ted & Martin we both net even par until #15 where they both stumbled and Richard came away with a net birdie. Richard also net birdies #17 and finishes 18 with a net par for the 3 stroke win.

Club Championship Flight 1 (the people’s flight)
After day 1 it was a loaded leader board with Brad Jordan & Matthew Payne holding a lead at 77. Right behind them were Michael Ryan, Phil Berndt, Perry Jacobson & Tom Nestvold with 78’s, Just 2 back was Richard Brynteson.
Sunday, again was the difference maker. There were a lot of 41-45’s shot on the front 9 by those above. Jordan posted a 41 and Brynteson a 39 thanks to a birdie on 9. Michael & Tom were chasing.
Brad plays the 2nd 9 in 38, finishing with a 79 and a 2 day total of +12. Richard was caught by Michael and Tom after he doubled #10 and all 3 finished T2, 3 strokes back of our People’s Champion. 5 strokes separated 1-6 spots.

Club Championship Flight 2
Nick Ward played well on Saturday and posted an 83 (even after a 2 stroke penalty for hitting a wrong ball) for a 2 stroke lead over Ramiro Sifuentes and 5 over Jeff Towey.
Ward and Sifuentes both struggled on the front 9 on Sunday shooting 47 and 46 respectively. Towey birdied #7 and posted a 43. After the front 9, only 1 stroke separated the 3.
Holes 10-12 were the survival of the nerves. Jeff & Ramiro go +3, Nick posts a +6 on those holes.
Jeff then bogies 14 whole Ramiro doubles it. It’s one stroke difference between those going into #15. The both have nice pars.
Then #16 happens. Jeff posts a bogie. Ramiro slaps his way to an 8. Jeff takes the lead with 2 left. They both bogie 17, and with thoughts of double digits in his head, Jeff keeps the drive dry on 18 to finish with a par and a 5 stroke victory over Nick and Ramiro that finished T2.

Club Championship Flight 3 (net)
With net 73’s by Steve Shellenbaum, John Bolduc and Stan Hop followed by 1 stroke Kevin Monogue it was going to be a horse race on Sunday.
Kevin was net par on the outward half and grabbed a narrow lead then played steady until #14 where he got a net eagle and really opened things up. Kevin finished the round with his 2nd net birdie of the tourney on #18 and finished with a net 72 and a +2 overall for the event.
In a tie for 2nd place at 4 strokes back were Steve and John along with Steve Couture who posted a great net 72 on Sunday to go with his day 1 78 to climb up the leader board.

Senior Club Championship Flight 2 (net)
Net 73’s again ruled the day here after day 1 by Steve Shellenbaum, John Bolduc, Stan Hop and Randy Zejdlik.
Steve and John both shot net 77 on day 2 to finish in a tie for first. Joining them was Steve Couture who shot a net 78 on day one and a net 72 on day 2 to come from 5 back to tie.
We ran a three way playoff starting on hole #10. Each player was getting a stroke. Mr. Couture was over the green in 2, and left little room to work while Mr. Shellenbaum found trouble in the bunker and Mr. Bolduc found himself with a challenge after his tee shot. Steve C was able to post a 5, net 4 which was good enough to win the extra hole and the crown.

Thanks to everyone that played.
As always, the prize money has been adjusted for those that won money in multiple events.
Look forward to seeing everyone in out only Stableford event in a couple of weeks.

Tupperware 2 Man Scramble Results

The good news is that the breeze helped on a hot humid day. Full results are here: LINK

In the Gross division a crowded leaderboard had just 7 teams finish under par:

  • T6 -3 Greg Donahue / Matt Payne
  • T6 -3 Justin Wallace / Tom Nestvold
  • 5  -4 Luke Rajkowski / Matt Haws
  • 4  -5 Brent Lindstrom / John Von Eschen
  • 3  -7 Howard Hoffman / Perry Jacobson
  • T1 -8 Brad Jordan / Erik Swanson
  • T1 -8 Nick Hendrikson / Richard Brynteson

Richard and Nick had about an 8 footer for birdie on #18 to go to -9 and grab their sixth birdie on the back 9 but could not get it to drop.

The Net division was also very tight with seven teams finishing within 3 shots of the lead

  • T5 -7 Matt McClernan / Steve Shellenbaum
  • T5 -7 Luke Rajkowski / Matt Haws
  • T5 -7 Howard Hoffman / Perry Jacobson
  • 4   -8 Greg Donahue / Matt Payne
  • 3   -9 Brad Jordan / Erik Swanson
  • T1 -10 Brent Lindstrom / Jon Von Eschen
  • T1 -10 Nick Hendrikson / Richard Brynteson

Brent and John had a awesome start with Gross birdie-eagle-birdie and finished the front 9 with a net 29! Their only dropped shot of the day came at 18, which ended up costing them solo first with Richard and Nick closing fast with their net 30 on the back 9.

Since there were teams finishing in the money in both Gross and Net, prizes have been adjusted.

CIT Fourball has surprising results

In a rain/lightning interrupted and shortened event (15 holes) the full field (52 players across 26 teams) had an interesting go of it.

In the Gross division, Richard Brynteson & Luke Rajkowski held on to a one stroke victory over Howie Hoffman & Brad Jordan. Richard & Luke managed a 1 under front 9 versus the level par from the chasers, and that was the difference maker.
Rounding out the top finishers were 3rd place at +1, Larry Hahka & Doug Paquette and a three-way tie for 4th at +2 with Roger Hamm/Gerry Meier; Stan Hop/Steve Shellenbaum; Pete Steichen/Sheldon Silberman.

The Net division was also a close finish with many of the same names as above. Hahka/Paquette with a 1 stroke win at -9 over Brett Nybo & Dylan Johnson. Nybo/Johnson had a 3 stroke lead at the turn but stumbled on 13 and 14 to slip back.
Third place at -7 was Steichen/Silberman and in a four-way tie for 4th place at -6 were: Conner Paulson/Charlie Morse; Meier/Hamm; Brynteson/Rajkowski; Hop/Shellenbaum

Or you can see this big-ass report

Too bad we had to shorten it as the final 3 holes could have been a difference maker with the results so tight.

Our weekend events have been very full, so remember to sign up for the next event, the Tupperware 2 person scramble on July 27th.  Registration ends July 19th.

Rotation Results

After a lot of shuffling, we were able to hold the Rotation and had 29 teams compete in both the gross and the net events. It was a slog and a slug fest. Full results are posted here: LINK

In the Net event it was trying to hang on for dear life in those last 6 holes of alternate shot.

  • There was a 3 way tie for fourth place at 7 under par:
    • Nde & Monro stumbled coming home with +5 in the last 6 but finished in the money
    • K Hanson & Rosner had 2 net eagles and a -3 finish
    • Payne & Berndt had a solid last 6 at -2
  • There was a 2 way tie for 2nd place just 1 stroke ahead at -8:
    • Gaspard & Bolduc played 15 -18 at -5 to shoot way up the leader board
    • Beitlich & Grubb were solid all day
  • The Champs at -9 were going to be hard to beat with 2 gross eagles (#2, #9) are Richard Brynteson & Howard Hoffman

In the Gross event it wasn’t even close if you paid attention to the last bullet point above. Howie and Richard were -4 in the scramble, -2 in the best ball (their only stumble a bogey on 8) and -1 in the alternate shot. Their total of -7 was a 6 stroke victory.
In a 3 way tie for second at -1 were: Beitlich/Grubb; Payne/Berndt; Jordan/Swanson

On course prizes – except hole 8 – if you know where it is, please capture it.

On Course Prizes.

Notes: last fall year the board adopted the “Richard Brynteson rule” as brought forth by Richard. That rule states that a player that wins chits in multiple flights/events in a single tournament is only eligible to win the chits & points in 1 of those flights/events. The chits they win is the highest of the ones available.
In this event this happened 3 times:

  • Hoffman / Brynteson: First place in Gross & Net
  • Payne / Berndt: T4 in Net and T2 in Gross
  • Beitlich / Grubb: T2 in both

This complicated the payouts. The prizes that could not be given out was added up and then re-allocated evenly to all those that finished in the money (places 1-4 in both). Therefore, what you see in the link above may not be what was listed before. What is in the link above in now correct using the method described.

Please note that this rule does not apply for the club championship(s) as each championship is considered it’s own stand alone tournament.

Lastly, I hope you noticed the new bench on #16. Larry Larson will be forever remembered by the BMGA and Brookview faithful.

Larry Larson’s bench on 16
“Love you Man” was a standard Larson sign off.

Lone Ranger Results

Playing on yet another soggy weekend, ten teams took to the task to claim the 2024 Championship of the Lone Ranger. If you haven’t played this event yet, put it on your 25 schedule. It’s fun, frustrating and a great time cheering for your mates.

Brynteson/Hoffman/Jocelyn/Paulsen played early and were leaders in the clubhouse for a long time at -12. The only team that could catch them were Slivken/Steichen/Silberman/ Courtney. Catch them they did, with THREE net birdies on #17 (2 natural). Then #18 happened. They could not manage to get 3 net pars to stay at -12. A single net bogey on a Lone Ranger hole sunk them to 2nd. A great finish indeed.
