Metro Seniors Teams get underway with underwhelming results

After a false start on April 26th at Gross – cancelled due to inclement weather, the Metro Senior Golf League got started on May 3 with glorious weather. Hosted at Bunker Hills, The BMGA sported two teams, the Golden team captained by @roger-hamm and the Valley Team captained by @sheldon-silberman. Each team plays four match play matches against one of the other 14 league teams throughout the season. Each side is worth 2 points and the total match is worth another two points. With 24 points on the line each week, competition is spirited. Unfortunately, both teams mostly struggled.

The Valley Team took on the host club and Ramiro Sifuentes garnered 4 points winning the front nine and the match with a respectable 86 (net 79) against a struggling opponent. Darin Allen was not near his mid-season form and was skunked by a net 73. Steve Susich, like Darin was not in good enough form even though his opponent looked pretty rusty, as well. Steve got 0 points. Doug Diedrich picked up two points hanging with his opponent on the front nine but ultimately losing the match. The team lost 6-18.

The Valley team faired slightly better against the Greenhaven team. Jim Stanford squeaked out 2 points on the front but was pretty well crushed on the back. Steve Silken played to a tie on the front for one point but could not overcome the 4 strokes he gave up to his opponent and lost the back and the match. Stan Hop shot an eagle 3 on the 5th hole but still lost the front nine. He kept the pedal down and pulled out the back nine and the match for 4 points. Rahul Tamhane finished the front nine up 2 for the two points and hung on on the back to lose -2 but a tie for the match. The team lost 10-14.

The Brookview Golden Team is in 9th placed the Valley Team is in 12th place.

Next Friday is at Fountain Valley. Valley takes on 11th place Valley Wood and Golden plays 4th place Wirth.
