BMGA Seniors Number One! (for now)

An update from Jim Sanford:

The BMGA’s “new” Metro Seniors team broke unaccustomed ground last week by taking 23 of a possible 24 points from Meadowbrook in the season’s third match.  That equates to three 6-0 wins and one 5-1.  The matches were played at Fountain Valley in Farmington.  With a three week total of 48 points, BMGA climbed to No 1 in the 16-team ranking.

Last year was the first time Brookview fielded a team in this venerable old league.  A different club hosts every Friday and each club sends a four-man A-B-C-D team.  Matches are fully handicapped.  Interested BMGA seniors (50 and up) who haven’t previously heard of this opportunity should contact either co-captain: Jim Sanford or Steve Slivken.

20 Man Update

The Brookview 20-man team won the opening leg of its home-and-home match on a Sunday, 5/2 beating New Richmond by a score of 18-12.

Brookview now heads to New Richmond, WI for the second leg on Sunday, 6/7, needing just 12.5 points to advance to the 2nd round for the first time in some 4 years.

For those unfamiliar, the 20-man match play competition is a team competition organized by the Minnesota Public Golf Association.  Participating teams assemble teams consisting of their strongest 20 players to compete against another club.  The format is “4-ball”, and the competition is gross score.

We need to assemble the very best squad we can.  Any Brookview patron with a USGA index of 9 or under, please contact Nick Schultz or Brad Kadue to ensure your name is on our distribution.  Nick will begin filling our 6/7 roster the week of 5/18.

Results from League Social

Thanks for everyone that showed up last night.  We had a great turn out and the beer stayed cold.

Winners last night are:

Nick Schultz and Howard Hoffman – with a score of 16 (+1) – $7.50 each.

A ten way tie for 16th place with a score of 19.  Rather than payout chits of $1.50 each, we did a random draw and Jason Lunetta won the $15.00 in chits.

Closest to the pin on hole number 9 goes to Joe Borrell. $15 in chits.

Chits can be picked up at the pro shop.

First week of league starts next week.

Shootout Results / Individual Match Play

SHOOTOUT:  Great weather for the last tournament.  John Bolduc dominated the last 3 holes to hold back the 2 low handicapers left.  Matt Pacyna lost in a chip off on 17 to Brandon Meder. 18th hole, Bolduc blasted his drive over the pond middle of the fairway to setup his win.  Thanks for a great year guys see you at the banquet.

INDIVIDUAL MATCH PLAY:  (Mark Lange Winner up 4&2) It was cool and crisp morning (mid- 40’s) and it never really warmed up.  We teed off at 9:30AM and there wasn’t another person on the course.  For the first 9:  We traded leads being up 1 a few times during the first 6 holes or so, but then I made a lucky putt on #8 that barely trickled in from 20 ft.
On hole #10, Doug Paquette made a 40 ft. putt to match my par.  And then for the next 3 or 4 holes, the match could be summed up as follows:  I was able to get up and down several times, where Doug did not.  The match went down at hole#15 in my favor.  The match ended on #16 and I finished up 4&2.
